Inka Kennepohl
Inka is a second year undergraduate student at Concordia, in the Studio Arts program. Their practice is mostly in painting and textile arts, with extensions into poetry and ceramics. With a background in the physical sciences, Inka’s visual art is positioned as a continuation of their exploration of meaning-making. Their work often deals with themes of materiality, social identity, gender, queer kinship, information transmission, and language.
From their hometown in Amiskwaciwâskahaikan (Edmonton) to their now-home in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal), they maintain awareness that they are a settler in so-called canada, and examine this connection to the land in their work. As such, their work is grounded in the natural and cultural geography of their surroundings.
In the summer of 2023 they began an ongoing series exploring how humans labouring under capitalism, and conversely humans resting, are situated within nature, using a confluence of landscape and portrait painting.
